Take-away-style Surinamese food with a lot of variety and good value. The roti that gives them their name is one of the best in the city. Amazingly thick and soft; each layer is like a standard roti somewhere else. The size is huge, and all the dishes it’s included with are substantially portioned. Dishes like the kippenlever are amazing with roti. The liver is seasoned so well that it tastes more like ketjap (sweet soy sauce) chicken, with just a characteristic liver aftertaste and no metallic flavor. The bara is also an amazing accompaniment. It is well spiced and savory. It has a soft inside and crunchy outside without being greasy. The telo with bakkeljauw was perfectly executed. They serve a lot of telo, which are crispy with a soft inside. It isn’t overly fried or burnt. The bakkeljauw is incredibly flavorful, balanced between fish flavor and spice, without being too salty. The pom is also amazing. It is soft, with the gelatinous starchiness to keep its structure. There is a lot of chicken and veggies, and it is, again, a good balance of seasonings. The other main dish of ketjap kip is only slightly less good. Large portions of juicy chicken thigh, marinated well with sweet soy sauce. Everything here is good and at a reasonable price. The staff is not that inviting, but they are accommodating. There are only very few places to sit against the wall, so they expect mostly takeout.

Eetbaar maar geen hoge verwachtingen. 11.50 voor een roti is wel schandalig vooral omdat vrijwel alles uit de magnetron komt.
